This course provides an opportunity for learners to get a brief introduction to the history of Urdu languages and literature. There are two parts to this course. In the first part of this course various issues are discussed such as Urdu as Indo-Aryan language, different ideas about Urdu source, Urdu's linguistic relationship with other languages, uniqueness of Urdu language, effects of Arabic and Persian on Urdu language, and the linguistic structure of Urdu etc. The second part of this course gives a brief overview on the history of Urdu literature such as Early samples of Urdu Language and Literature, Decni Urdu Literature, Urdu Poetry and Prose Genres, Modern Urdu Prose, School of thought of Urdu Poetry, Urdu Fiction and Non-Fiction Literature, Educational and literary institutes of Urdu, social and cultural institutes of Urdu and Urdu journalism etc.Course Credit8
