LGBT Support Groups: Our school has an LGBTQ+ support group that is facilitated by a licensed counselor and meets weekly. Our Center for Multicultural and Diversity Education facilitates an LGBTQ+ mentoring program that pairs undergraduate and graduate students with staff and faculty members who share similar lived experiences and identities. The multicultural center facilitates a SafeZone Allies Student Network for developing peer LGBTQIA+ allyship among the student body. There are additionally two registered student organizations, UofA PRIDE and oSTEM (out in STEM), that serve as peer support and engagement opportunities for students who identify as LGBTQ+. We celebrate LGBTQ+ graduates with a Lavender Graduation.

  • Sustainability

A charter signatory of the ACUPCC, the University of Arkansas (UA) has made a public pledge to become a carbon neutral institution by 2040. By 2013 they reduced greenhouse gas emissions to below 2002 levels, despite nearly doubling student enrollment and adding more than 1.6 million square feet of space. All new (post 2006) Education and General Purpose buildings are built to LEED Silver standards or better, resulting in two LEED Silver, two LEED Gold, and two Green Globe buildings. The UA Sustainability Council, composed of students, staff, and faculty, was formed in 2010 to provide guidance to the campus community on sustainability strategies and policies. In 2012 the UA appointed an executive director for the Office for Sustainability to integrate academic, research, and facilities sustainability initiatives, along with a director to coordinate student and facility programs. The university initiated an undergraduate minor in Foundations of Sustainability in 2011. The UA is home to two sustainability centers that provide educational, research, and outreach programs around the world. The Sustainability Consortium (TSC) provides sustainability key performance indicators and metrics for consumer goods supply chains. TSC is the global leader in supply chain sustainability strategy development. The Center for Agricultural and Rural Sustainability (CARS) in the UA System Division of Agriculture provides global leadership in agriculture and food system life cycle assessments to support sustainability decision-making.
