  • Sustainability

2014 marked the second year of DePauw’s Campus Farm program, which saw the school grow over 6,000 pounds of produce on University-owned land! Everything from collard greens and beets to corn and kale were harvested. Most of this healthy and organic food was served in DePauw’s school kitchens, but nearly 10 percent was donated to an emergency food pantry in the local community. This innovative program— bringing together students, faculty, and the community—epitomizes DePauw’s commitment to combining sustainability with community engagement. Another prime example is DePauw’s “Move Out” program. At the end of every school year, DePauw collects usable items from students who are moving out to donate to needy families in the local community. In 2015, DePauw will greatly expand its paid summer and school year internship offerings by introducing the Sustainability Leadership Program. The experiential learning focused Sustainability Leadership Program will compliment curricular environmental opportunities like the Environmental Fellows Program. In 2008, DePauw signed the ACUPCC, and adopted a policy that all new buildings must be at least certified LEED Silver. Currently, the school boasts two LEED Gold buildings. DePauw’s campus contains a large 520-acre nature park.
