  • Sustainability

The mission for sustainability at North Carolina State University is “to engage the students, faculty members, staff, and university partners in preparing for a more sustainable future.” The Campus Environment Sustainability Team (CEST) is the group responsible for developing and implementing the sustainability strategic plan on campus. While CEST members are appointed, any member of the NC State community has the opportunity to participate in CEST’s decision- making process through public work groups. NC State is a signatory of the ACUPCC and has completed their Climate Action Plan. Additionally, the university has committed to a LEED Silver policy on all newly constructed buildings and large renovations. The university has an interdisciplinary major and minor as well as courses in Environmental Sciences in addition to colleges and departments in agriculture, forestry, earth sciences, marine sciences, atmospheric sciences, engineering, landscape and architectural design, management, education, economic policy and social sciences. In partnership with NC A&T University and the State Department of Agricultural and Consumer services, NC State operates the Center for Environmental Farming Systems at a working farm facility. There are also several student organizations dedicated to sustainability efforts, such as the - NC State Stewards, Wolfpack Environmental Student Association, and Net Impact. Lastly, events and workplaces on campus have the opportunity to become “Wolfpack Certified Sustainable,” which provides standards and incentives intended to encourage event planners and campus organizations to adopt sustainable practices.
